A remaining quarter are short story anthologies, probably closer to a third. Like, just now, I looked up "popular horror podcasts", and easily half of the results are nominally nonfiction serials like Lore and Last Podcast on the Left. If you're trying to find this stuff on your own, search results from The Wide Web are pretty much useless. And I don't think I would have an easy way to find out without reaching out to a person who does. I know if I wasn't part of an audio drama community, I wouldn't know what questions to ask, or what my options are. It's the new Nightvale, it's the new Black Tapes, the new Magnus Archives no wonder newbies get confused when we have such a small pool of commonly "popular" media to contextualize content for them. I think we're still in this weird limbo period, like young adult books right after H*rry P*tter came out when everything was being compared to the most recent most popular thing. Probably less than a year ago I saw one questioning whether there was in fact a thing "like a movie, but a podcast" in existence at all. I saw a post the other day asking if there were any fantasy stories out there that aren't DND actual plays. Diet culture is a scam, body fat is natural and healthy, food is good for you, and calories are the fuel your body needs to power its continued survival. Unless you're actively going through a serious medical situation, you do not need a tightly restricted diet. Anything that's edible can be healthy under the right circumstances, just like anything can be an unhealthy choice under the wrong circumstances. That's an extreme example of course, but my point is, there's no such thing as inherently Good or Bad food. Eating entire sticks of butter was the healthiest possible diet for them. And that happened because under those extreme circumstances, their bodies desperately needed as many calories as possible, so their diet consisted mainly of butter, chocolate, and animal fat. The men out on the sledging teams would have cravings to eat entire sticks of butter with nothing else, so that was included in their rations. Period cravings for junk food? Your body's under some stress and working hard, you need energy, and foods with a lot of fat and/or sugar are an easy way to get that.īack in the early 1900's when exploring Antarctica was all the rage, y'know what was a major part of everyones daily rations? Butter. Like, if you've just finished a workout and are suddenly desperately craving fries? Maybe you're low on salt, you did just sweat a whole bunch. As a general rule, if you're having food cravings, you should probably pay attention to that, because it's usually a sign that your body needs something.
